Commanding ground forces normally means the F10 map and a chat box — both of which are
miserable in a headset. So we built our own: an in-cockpit panel you drive with the mouse,
without ever leaving VR. Pick a unit, pick an order, execute. It answers on
the radio like everything else.
Move & position
Send a unit to a map marker, or to a bearing and range from where it stands. Set speed,
altitude and rules of engagement for anything that flies.

Call for fire
Put artillery on a point, then walk it in: add, drop, left, right, in meters. A JTAC
who can see the splash calls the correction for you, and the battery reports rounds
complete.

Lift troops
Request a squad at an embarkation point, fly to them, and they board: landed, in a low
hover, or up the wire on a McGuire rig. Ask for smoke and they pop a color without
saying which, because sometimes the enemy pops one too.

Combat search & rescue
Aircrew go down where they go down, each man on his own. They radio in, slip away from
a patrol that walks too close, and talk you in by ear. Drop them at the MASH and they
walk themselves in.

Insert a JTAC
Carry a team in and drop them on high ground. They find targets, mark with smoke, lase
for anyone with a pod, and call it over the net.

Get talked down
Weather in, gauges only. Call approach and a controller gives you headings and altitudes
around the terrain until the field is in sight.
GCA
Squads with a mind of their own
A squad that trades fire goes after the enemy when the shooting stops, calls check-fire
the moment friendly rounds land on it, and tells you when the ammunition is running out.
resupply
The crew chief
Behind your seat the whole flight: taking fire by clock position, your height on short
final, the doors, the torque, a radio shot out, and one reminder if you lift off with the
sets cold.
